The Rising Star awards, designated for companies in business less than two years, went to Bald Guy Greetings and Blue Finch Studios, LLC.  First-time LOUIE winners included Any Horrible Occasion; Bald Guy Greetings; Blue Finch Studios, LLC.; Jumping Cracker Beans; Madison Park Greetings; Mainio, Inc.; Studio Expressio; The Three Maries; and Wooster & Prince Papers.

Competition in the LOUIEs is restricted to greeting cards marketed and sold in the U.S. during the previous calendar year.  Entries are judged on a 10-point scale of criteria that include imagination, impact, artistry, harmony, sendability and value.

The judging panel for the 2007 LOUIEs included creative and marketing professionals from both GCA member and non-member publishers, industry suppliers, independent sales representatives, card retailers, a representative from Greetings etc. magazine, a consumer who purchases more than 200 cards every year, and a graphics art student.

The LOUIEs are named after Louis Prang, the German lithographer credited with introducing color lithography to the U.S. card industry in 1861.

A card is for now, a LOUIE is forever!
